Feeling depressed after childbirth

The baby blues

Women can experience a low mood and feel mildly depressed at a time when they expect they should feel happy after having a baby.

“Baby blues” are probably due to the sudden hormonal and chemical changes that take place in your body after childbirth.

Symptoms can include:

  • feeling emotional and bursting into tears for no apparent reason
  • feeling irritable or touchy
  • low mood
  • anxiety and restlessness

All these symptoms are normal and usually only last for a few days (NHS website)

Is it postnatal depression?

Depression after a baby is born can be extremely distressing. Postnatal depression is thought to affect around 1 in 10 women.

Symptoms such as tiredness, irritability or poor appetite are normal if you’ve just had a baby. But these are usually mild and do not stop you leading a normal life.

When you have postnatal depression, you may feel increasingly depressed and low. Looking after yourself or your baby may become too much.

Emotional signs of postnatal depression may include:

  • loss of interest in the world around you and no longer enjoying things that used to give you pleasure (like you “cannot be bothered”)
  • feelings of hopelessness
  • not being able to stop crying
  • feelings of not being able to cope
  • not being able to enjoy anything
  • memory loss or being unable to concentrate
  • excessive anxiety about your baby

Other signs of postnatal depression may also include:

  • sleeplessness
  • extreme tiredness
  • feeling generally unwell
  • anxiety
  • loss of appetite

Proverbs 12:25 – Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down (depression), but a good word cheers it up.

Moving home + Pregnancy contractions

I am 37 weeks pregnant, and we have just moved to a new home!!! Not a smart move but so needed.
Two days ago, we moved from a flat to a nice house (still renting it)

We decided to move as you all may know, we are expecting a blessing to be delivered in less than 2 weeks or sooner.
Moving is not fun when you are 37 weeks pregnant, lots of work has to be done, like cleaning, carrying in and out furniture, and sorting out the kitchen, bedrooms, and living room to make it all look like home.
That’s what we were doing yesterday when the contractions started while I was in Lidl to buy food. I thought that’s where I am giving birth, in Lidl!?

Hasn’t happened yet, came home and relaxed in a nice warm bath.
We still have to sort out a lot of things in our new home, before the baby comes. I will let my husband clean and sort out the rest of the staff while I sit and give indications, in the end, am the one pregnant 🙂

Pregnancy journey

“'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. '” — Jeremiah 29:11

May 2022 – On the pregnancy test was this word ”pregnant” It was the most shocking, not expected, blessed day so far. From May to October I have experienced what it means to grow a baby inside you, new life given by God to us.
At the beginning of my first trimester I felt sick and tired, and all the condiments from the cupboard had to be chucked aways, the smell was too strong for me. Today
The second trimester was the best so far, it’s true that I became a foodie but I am proud to have self-control over it.
I remember when I first felt my baby’s movement, such an amazing feeling that only a Mom can describe.
We are thankful for a healthy, very active baby in my womb. As I just entered my last trimester, we are excited to meet our little munchkin in 2 months time.
