Parent life at 7am

This morning my daughter woke up asking for an ice lolly.

I said, “Tell you what… go and look out the window. If you can spot anyone outside this early on a Sunday morning, I’ll give you one.”

She ran to the window… looked everywhere… and came back.

“No one”

Exactly. 😂 I know my neighbours routines

Then the negotiations began…

She said, “Let’s do puzzles!”

So I negotiated back:
“How about you watch Bluey while Mummy gets 10 more minutes of sleep?”

Deal accepted. 🤝

Ten minutes later she came back with another request:
“Can we paint pine cones?”

And just like that… here we are at 8:10 a.m., painting pine cones in our pyjamas. 🎨🌲

Motherhood is full of tiny negotiations, unexpected craft sessions, and coffee that somehow always goes cold. I wouldn’t have predicted this start to the day, but seeing her smile makes it all worth it.

Parenting is basically working for a tiny CEO who changes the meeting agenda every 10 minutes.

Pain and anxiety

Today, I’m travelling to the dentist, and it feels like the start of a new chapter in my life.

For years, I’ve lived feeling insecure, hiding my smile because of my teeth. It’s something that has affected my confidence every single day.

Growing up, I didn’t have regular access to dental care, and I wasn’t taught the importance of looking after my teeth. Those circumstances came with a huge price that I’ve carried into adulthood. It’s not something I can change now, but it is something I can finally do something about.

Today marks the beginning of a long and emotional journey to rebuild my smile.

This isn’t going to be an easy process. I need four bone graft procedures before I can even move on to the next stage of treatment. Just thinking about it fills me with anxiety because I have a real fear of needles. The idea of going through these procedures is scary, and I know there will be painful days ahead.

But for the first time in a very long time, the pain has a purpose.

Every appointment brings me one step closer to smiling without shame. One step closer to laughing without covering my mouth. One step closer to finally feeling confident in my own skin.

If you’re someone who struggles with your teeth, or you’ve spent years hiding your smile like I have, I hope you know you’re not alone. Our past doesn’t have to define our future.

This journey won’t be quick, and certainly won’t be easy

Here’s to the beginning of a brand new smile and (a very costly one)

Pretzels

Making pretzels brings back special memories for me because it was actually my first paid job when I was around 16 years old. Back then, I learned not only how to make fresh, delicious pretzels but also the value of hard work and dedication. Years later, that experience still holds a special place in my heart, and I continue to share the same passion for making pretzels today. It’s amazing how something that started as a first job grew into a lasting appreciation for a craft I still enjoy.

Book Recommendations for Christians: Growing in Faithfulness and Loving Your Neighbour

As Christians, we are called to live lives that reflect the love of Christ. Faithfulness to God and love for our neighbours are at the heart of the Christian life. Jesus summed up God’s greatest commandments by saying we are to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbour as ourselves. Reading books that deepen our understanding of Scripture and strengthen our walk with Christ can help us grow in these areas.
Here are a few excellent books to encourage your faith and inspire you to love others well.
1. The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
This Christian classic explores what it truly means to follow Jesus. Bonhoeffer challenges readers to embrace costly grace and live lives marked by obedience, humility, and faithfulness.
2. Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
C.S. Lewis presents the foundations of the Christian faith with clarity and wisdom. This book encourages believers to grow in their understanding of God and to live out their faith with love and integrity.
3. The Gospel Comes with a House Key by Rosaria Butterfield
This book reminds Christians that loving our neighbours often begins with simple acts of hospitality. Butterfield shares practical ways to open our homes and lives to others in Christ-like love.
4. Knowing God by J.I. Packer
A deeper knowledge of God leads to deeper faithfulness. Packer’s timeless work helps readers understand God’s character and grow in a closer relationship with Him.
5. The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom
This inspiring true story demonstrates unwavering faith during times of suffering. Corrie ten Boom’s testimony is a powerful example of forgiveness, courage, and love for others, even in the darkest circumstances.
Living Out Our Faith
Reading Christian books is valuable, but true spiritual growth comes as we put God’s Word into practice. Faithfulness is seen in our daily obedience, and love is demonstrated in how we serve, forgive, encourage, and care for those around us.
Bible Verse
“And he answered, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbour as yourself.'”
— Luke 10:27 (ESV)
May these books encourage you to grow in your relationship with Christ and inspire you to faithfully love God and your neighbour every day.

Loose Belly Fat: Why It Happens and What Actually Works?

Loose belly fat is one of the most frustrating body changes people experience. Whether it appears after weight loss, pregnancy, aging, stress, or long periods of inactivity, it can feel stubborn and difficult to manage. The good news is that loose belly fat is common — and with the right combination of nutrition, movement, and consistency, improvement is possible.
What Is Loose Belly Fat?
Loose belly fat usually refers to a combination of:
Excess abdominal fat
Loose or stretched skin
Reduced muscle tone around the stomach area
Many people expect the stomach to become flat immediately after losing weight, but the body does not always tighten at the same speed. Skin elasticity, age, genetics, and lifestyle habits all play a role.
Common Causes of Belly Fat
1. Poor Diet Choices
Highly processed foods, sugary drinks, and excessive calorie intake contribute to fat storage around the abdomen. Refined carbs and added sugars are especially linked to belly fat accumulation.
2. Lack of Physical Activity
A sedentary lifestyle slows metabolism and reduces muscle mass, making it easier for fat to gather around the midsection.
3. Stress and Cortisol
Chronic stress increases cortisol levels, a hormone associated with abdominal fat storage. Emotional eating often worsens the cycle.
4. Aging
As people age, muscle mass naturally decreases and metabolism slows down. This can make it harder to maintain a firm stomach.
5. Rapid Weight Loss
Losing weight too quickly may leave behind loose skin because the skin does not have enough time to adapt.
Can Loose Belly Fat Be Reduced?
Yes — but it requires patience. Spot reduction is largely a myth, meaning you cannot burn fat from only one body part. The body loses fat overall through sustainable habits.
Best Ways to Tighten and Reduce Belly Fat
Eat More Whole Foods
Focus on:
Lean protein
Vegetables
Fruits
Whole grains
Healthy fats
Protein is especially important because it helps preserve muscle and keeps you fuller longer.

One book that offers a practical perspective on long-term health and weight management is Fit for Life. I recently read it and found it surprisingly helpful, especially in the way it encourages people to think about food combinations, hydration, digestion, and natural eating habits rather than chasing extreme diets. While some of its ideas are debated by nutrition experts, the overall message about eating more whole foods, increasing fruit and vegetable intake, and building sustainable habits makes it an interesting and motivating read for anyone trying to improve their health and reduce belly fat naturally.

Remembering Anne Boleyn

Today marks the anniversary of the death of Anne Boleyn, one of the most fascinating and controversial queens in English history.
Executed on May 19, 1536, Anne’s story continues to captivate historians and readers around the world.
She was the second wife of King Henry VIII and the mother of Queen Elizabeth I.
Anne played a major role in shaping the future of England and the English monarchy.
Her marriage to Henry VIII led to the English Reformation and the break from the Roman Catholic Church.
Despite her intelligence, influence, and charm, Anne’s time as queen was tragically short.
She faced accusations of treason, adultery, and conspiracy against the king.
Many historians today believe the charges against her were politically motivated.
Anne was executed at the Tower of London at the age of approximately 35.
Her calm and dignified behavior before her execution has been widely remembered.
She left behind a legacy far greater than anyone could have imagined at the time.
Her daughter, Elizabeth I, became one of England’s greatest monarchs.
Anne Boleyn is often remembered as a symbol of ambition, resilience, and tragedy.
Books, films, and documentaries continue to explore her remarkable life story.
The mystery and drama surrounding her downfall still spark debate today.
Visitors from around the world travel to historical sites connected to her life.
Her story reminds us how dangerous royal politics could be in Tudor England.
More than four centuries later, Anne Boleyn remains an unforgettable historical figure.
On this day, many reflect on her impact on British history and culture.
May her story continue to inspire curiosity, discussion, and historical understanding.

Bleinheim Palace

Visited  with my daughter and husband a couple of days ago and it was amazing! We actually only explored the gardens and then went to watch the joust, which was such a fun experience — it really felt like stepping back in time.

The grounds are absolutely stunning, and even just walking around the gardens you can see why it’s one of the most famous stately homes in England. The lake, bridges and huge landscaped parkland are incredible. To my shame, I only found out on the way there that  was born there  Apparently there’s even an exhibition inside about his life and connection to the palace, so now I definitely want to go back and explore properly.
Has anyone been at Christmas? I’ve heard the lights and decorations are magical and completely transform the palace and gardens 🎄

So much to do…

My house, actually wait, it’s not my house, it’s a rented house, so my rented house which I really like but expensive, it’s very disorganised!

This makes me lazy, you would say?! Well, I consider myself a busy mom, not a lazy mom. You still don’t believe me?

Here is my invitation for you, please join me for a cuppa, from 12 pm to 2 pm you’re more than welcome! Before “my tiger” invites herself for tea…

I am enjoying my English tea, right in these moments. It’s called self-care.

Amelia is sleeping after her first day of settling in at the nursery and what better way of relaxing a mom can have than a cup of tea and a 10 minutes of reading…

Tidying up this home is scheduled for Friday, as for Saturday a guest is coming for a visit.

I am not even making dinner tonight; I have already informed my husband and he said “That’s ok”! I don’t think his brain was transmitting the information correctly  to the right wire, but I recorded him so I have the proof!

We need days like this, where all that matters is the child and nothing else.
